Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for home health services?
Individuals in Alabama may be eligible for mobile physical therapy if they:
-
are home bound,
-
require intermittent skilled care (such as physical therapy),
-
have services ordered by a physician or authorized provider,
-
and receive care from a Medicare-certified home health provider.

* Eligibility is determined by medical necessity and applies under Medicare, Medicaid, and many commercial insurance plans; final coverage depends on individual circumstances and plan guidelines.
How often/long are visits?
Most home health physical therapy visits occur 1–3 times per week and last 45–60 minutes, with frequency and duration determined based on the patient’s medical needs, functional goals, and physician orders. There is no fixed schedule that applies to every patient.
What equipment do I need?
In most cases, no special equipment is required. We will bring necessary treatment tools and design exercises using items commonly found in the home, such as chairs, beds, or countertops. If additional equipment is recommended, we will discuss options that are safe, appropriate, and easy to use at home.
What if I live in a rural area?
Living in a rural area does not automatically prevent you from receiving mobile physical therapy. Many providers serve rural and outlying communities across Alabama, and eligibility is based on medical need, home bound status, and provider service areas—not population size. Availability may vary by location, but we can help determine coverage and coordinate care options in your area.
